How To Choose the Right Crock Pot

The first step to choosing the right Crock Pot is determining what your needs are.

Selecting the Proper Size Crock Pot:

Crock Pots range from 1 quart to 6 quart sizes so it is important that you purchase the size that will be most useful to you. If you will only be cooking for 1 person than you should be all set with a 1 to 2 quart crockpot. Bigger is not better when it comes to selecting your Crock Pot size because your pot should always be at least half full for best cooking results. Cooking in a Crock Pot that is larger than you need will either compromise the quality of your food or cause you to cook a larger quantity than you need. If your Crock Pot will only be used to cook for 2 people go with a medium-sized Crock Pot around 3 quart sized. If you are cooking for a family of 3 to 6 people or will be using your Crock Pot for potlucks, a 6 quart Crock Pot will be best for you. For some people it may be best to have a couple different sized Crock Pots depending on how much your needs will vary. Always keep in mind that cooking in a Crock Pot that is too large or too small will both compromise the quality of your food and cooking time.

Type of Crock Pot

The type of Crock Pot that you will need is also an important aspect to consider. If most of your meals will need to cook for around 8 hours and you will be home and ready to eat at that time, go with a basic Crock Pot with manual settings that you can adjust when needed. For many people now that will be gone longer than typical cook times, electronic Crock Pots that can be set to automatically switch to “warm” when cooking is completed are the most practical choice.

There are many Crock Pots available in different sizes and price ranges. Find the one that is best for you and you’ll form a bond that will last for many years. After all, the most important thing is that you find a Crock Pot that you can trust to properly cook meals for yourself and your family and simplify the never-ending task of feeding the ones you love.
